Long's Peak
Third attempt was the charm.... I have been visiting RMNP since I was a toddler. My family has cabin in the area and family has been in exploring the area before i was thought of. I got the hiking bug in my teens and had my first attempt on Longs at age 16 and was stormed off the mountain. Second attempt was back in 09 or 10 and high winds kept everybody off the keyhole that day. Third attempt June 2012, late start had a mixed alpine day of hiking, climbing the few pitches on the North face, and scrambling to the summit. Took keyhole route down. Oh Happy day 13 years in the making! Photo from belay station at gear change. Summited and back down in about 12 or so hours. Made this flatlander's dreams come true. I will continue to explore RMNP and bring friends and hopefully my future children here to explore this amazingly beautiful wild part of the country. My favorite park. My heritage. My first love. Memories that will only fade when I do: hiking, ice climbing, rock climbing, being closer to the stars, and the people that I share them with. Thanks for reading folks, no go make your own adventures. LC
