1969, Trail Ridge Road, above timberline
One sunny afternoon, my girlfriend and I were traveling from Estes Park to Grand Lake. We were near the Lava Cliffs when all of a sudden, two US Air Force F4 Phantom IIs buzzed Trail Ridge Road. They could not have been more than 500 feet above us. I will never forget how loud they were nor how low!! Looking back on that day, I am surprised that didn't cause an accident.
